Congress’s ‘Chatroon Ki Goonj’ Campaign in Guwahati

Jharkhand Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey Demands Immediate Resignation of Central Education Minister in Press Conference

DD TIMES Guwahati, June 25: As part of the nationwide ‘Chatroon Ki Goonj’ campaign launched by the Congress party, an important press conference was held in Guwahati today. Addressing the media, Jharkhand’s Agriculture Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey sharply criticized the central government’s education policy and the crumbling state of the current education system.

Holding the central government morally accountable for the recurring paper leaks across the country and the institutional failure of the education system, she demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Expressing deep concern during the press conference, Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey stated that the education system, upon which the future of millions of youth across the country depends, is currently “in the ICU.” She remarked that this system, which shapes the future of millions of students, has been trapped in a web of weaknesses, irregularities, and corruption. The allegations of paper leaks in the NEET examination and the irregularities surrounding CBSE exams have completely shattered the credibility of the education system, posing a grave concern for the entire nation.

The Minister expressed deep resentment over how the uncertainty surrounding the NEET exams and repeated cancellations have taken a severe toll on the mental health of students nationwide. She termed the tragic incidents of suicides by several meritorious students—including Akanksha Chaturvedi from Madhya Pradesh, Simran from Haryana, Vetri Anandam from Tamil Nadu, and Riya Kumari Thapa from Uttarakhand—due to unbearable academic pressure as extremely heartbreaking. She noted that the suicide notes left behind by these students expressed deep remorse, with many feeling they had disappointed or failed their parents. She emotionaly added that no student should ever face such a situation in the future, and no parent should have to endure the unbearable pain of losing a child.

Minister Tirkey further emphasized that many poor and middle-class parents make ultimate sacrifices for their children’s education by selling their lands, taking loans, or mortgaging their gold jewelry. On the other hand, students also work day and night, dedicating the most valuable years of their lives to their studies. Therefore, any negligence or manipulation regarding the future and lives of these meritorious students by the government or any authority is completely unacceptable.

It is worth mentioning that along with the Jharkhand Minister, the press conference held in Guwahati was attended by Meera Borthakur, President of Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress; Bedabrat Bora, Chairman of APCC Media Department; MLA Zuber Anam; and Palash Ranjan Dutta, a student from Dibrugarh University, who all strongly protested against the anti-student policies of the central government.
