DD TIMES Guwahati, July 15: The book titled “Bhasha-Sankriti Aru Prajanmor Preeti Sambad ” authored by senior journalist and writer Bhupen Mahanta was formally released 10th July at the Guwahati Press Club. The book was unveiled by noted litterateur and Rasagar Dr. Anjanjyoti Choudhury.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Choudhury remarked, “In today’s time, the best way to serve the nation is through literary practice. Only by preserving our language and culture can a nation sustain its relevance with time.”

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the author’s wife, Bishnupriya Medhi. The occasion also coincided with Bhupen Mahanta’s birthday, which was celebrated with a cake-cutting ceremony before the book launch.

The book was released in the presence of several distinguished personalities including retired administrative officer and writer Thaneswar Malakar, owner-editor of Dainandin Barta Shankar Gohain, executive editor of Amar Asom Gautam Sarma, chief editor of Dainandin Barta Naren Hazarika, and assistant secretary of Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha Jugal Kishore Mahanta.

Speaking at the event, Thaneswar Malakar said, “When a journalist engages in writing with a pen in hand, every subject becomes deeper and more meaningful. A piece written by such a person carries layered information and can represent multiple dimensions of society.”

Gautam Sarma, executive editor of Amar Asom, highlighted the growing importance of economic strength alongside cultural identity. He stated, “Today, apart from language and culture, the economic aspect has become crucial. A nation can stand strong only when it is economically stable.”

The event was anchored by young journalist and writer Darsana Baruah. Sankar Gohain, owner-editor of Dainandin Barta, while extending birthday wishes to the author, emphasized the importance of reading habits.

He said, “Our language and identity have reached this stage through struggle. While it is encouraging that the language has received classical recognition, parents must create a conducive environment at home for children to develop the habit of reading books.

Even if education becomes free in the future, it cannot replace the depth of knowledge gained from textbooks.” Chief editor of Dainandin Barta Naren Hazarika described Bhupen Mahanta as a seasoned journalist and stressed that a writer must possess deep knowledge of a subject to present it effectively.

Jugal Kishore Mahanta pointed out that declining work culture due to increasing dependency is a concern. He also remarked that languages like Sanskrit, despite receiving classical status, are facing gradual decline due to reduced practice.

Dimpul Chutia, proprietor of Puruleel Prakashan and executive editor of Dainandin Barta, stated that life experiences play a crucial role in shaping meaningful writing.

He noted that Mahanta’s long journalistic experience adds significant value to the book. Author Bhupen Mahanta, speaking about his work, said, “The pain before publishing a book is different from the experience of writing itself.

That journey provides the motivation to continue writing.” The event was attended by several prominent personalities including journalists, writers, poets and social workers such as Prabin Das, Kumud Nath, Dulal Mishra, Mahidhar Kalita, Mani Mahanta, Montu Saikia, Nabajyoti Kalita, Jayanta Sarma, Utpal Saikia, Manoranjan Kalita, poet Bhuban Das, poet Jurimoni Mudoi, Pallabika Mahanta, journalist Dipak Kumar Barman, Nipa Kakoti, social worker Babita Mishra, artist Kamal Mahanta, cover designer Prashanta Pathak, Bhawani Deka, Rita Baruah, Chayanika Duwara, Anupama Deka, Nurul Haque, Sunil Boro, and Satyendra Chaharia among many others.
