Assam Governor attends 5th Convocation of Assam Women’s University


DD TIMES Guwahati, March 10:
Assam Governor and Chancellor of Assam Women’s University, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, attended the 5th Convocation ceremony of the university held at Jorhat today. On the occasion, the Governor conferred degrees to 360 graduates and extended his heartfelt congratulations to them for their academic achievements.


Addressing the graduates, Governor Shri Acharya emphasized the transformative power of knowledge and quoted, “There is no friend like knowledge, no relative like knowledge. There is no wealth like knowledge, no happiness like knowledge,” highlighting that knowledge is the greatest asset that guides individuals and society towards progress.
Describing the occasion as a proud and memorable moment for both the university and its students, the Governor said that the convocation marks the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance and focused learning. He expressed confidence that the graduating students would make meaningful contributions to society and wished them success in their future endeavours.


During the ceremony, D.Litt degree was conferred upon social worker Riniki Bhuyan Sharma in recognition of her contributions to social and cultural activities in Assam. The Governor congratulated her on the honour and described her life as a remarkable example of service and dedication, inspiring countless women across the state.


Highlighting the importance of women’s education, the Governor said that in Indian tradition women have always been revered as embodiments of knowledge, strength and prosperity. Referring to the vision of Narendra Modi, the Governor noted that educating women leads to the empowerment of families, communities and the nation as a whole.


He expressed satisfaction that Assam Women’s University is playing a vital role in addressing the higher education needs of women from tribal, rural and urban areas and providing them with opportunities to pursue quality education.

He also appreciated the university for implementing the principles of the National Education Policy and promoting research, innovation and skill development in tune with the demands of a rapidly changing world.


Encouraging the graduating students to embrace lifelong learning, the Governor urged them to pursue their chosen paths with dedication, integrity and confidence. He advised them to continue upgrading their knowledge and skills, adopt new technologies and contribute positively towards inclusive and sustainable development of society.


The Governor also underlined that true success lies not only in personal achievements but in working for the welfare of society and the nation. Referring to the university’s motto “Aapnoti Prajnaya Satyam,” he said that knowledge and wisdom ultimately lead to truth and should serve as guiding principles in life.
Noted Khasi poet, playwright and scholar Prof. Streamlet Dkhar form Dept. of Khasi NEHU gave the convocation address.
MLA Mariani Rupjyoti Kurmi also attended and spoke on the occasion.
The programme was attended by Vice-Chancellor of Assam Women’s University, Prof. Ajanta Borghohain Rajkhowa;  Registrar Dr. Vinod Chandra Bora; members of the University Court, Academic and Executive Councils, faculty members and officials of the university.
