Chief Minister launches distribution of MMUA cheques to 33,816 enterprising women of Goreswar Legislative Assembly Constituency

Intensifying the government’s efforts for women empowerment, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today distributed seed capitals to 33,816 beneficiaries of Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan from Goreswar Legislative Assembly constituency at a programme held at Goreswar in Tamulpur district today.

Of the total beneficiaries, 31,998 women are from rural areas and 1,818 are from urban areas. With this, a total of 17,64,630 women from 73 Legislative Assembly Constituencies across the state have so far received entrepreneurship funds under the scheme.


Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma stated that under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, the Government has undertaken the initiative to provide entrepreneurship funds of Rs.10,000 each to 32 lakh women for their economic empowerment.

He said that the State government will spend a total of Rs. 3,200 crore for the implementation of the scheme, adding that never before has such a large-scale programme exclusively for women’s economic empowerment been implemented in Assam.


Giving a snapshot of other initiatives of the government, the Chief Minister stated that Orunodoi scheme, implemented with the objective of women’s financial empowerment, now covers 40 lakh women across the state.

He further stated that the Nijut Moina scheme, under which the government provides educational assistance to nearly four lakh girl students, has brought about a revolutionary change in the field of girl’s education.

He said that these three schemes aimed at strengthening women power have ushered in an unprecedented socio-economic transformation in the state.

The Rs. 10,000 provided under the Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, he said, is not merely financial assistance but a mark of respect and recognition for the women of the state.


Stating that the Rs. 10,000 provided under the Mukhya Mantri Udyamita Abhiyan is not the end of the journey but only the beginning. Dr. Sarma said that the government’s efforts will continue until every member of the SHGs becomes a “Lakhpati Baideo”.

He noted that out of the 32 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme, more than one lakh women have already emerged as Lakhpati Baideos. He cited examples of two such women from the newly formed Goreswar constituency.


He said that Deepa Chetri, a member of the Samriddhi Self-Help Group under the Kameng CLF of West Defeli village in the Nagrijuli Development Block, has been able to earn around Rs. 12,500 per month through goat rearing activity.

Similarly, Ganga Suwedi, a member of the Kalyani Self-Help Group under the Janani CLF of Bongalipara village, has ventured into dairy farming and now earns around Rs. 10,000 per month.


The Chief Minister further stated that more than 5,000 women in the Goreswar constituency have already become Lakhpati Baideos by earning over Rs. 1 lakh annually.

He said that several such successful women, including Pratima Narzary of Panbari village, Prabha Nath of Kalbari village, Makul Murmu of Panbari village, Pratima Daimary of Pub Naokata village and others have set example for others to follow.

He urged the women of the constituency to take inspiration from these success stories and actively engage in entrepreneurial activities. He said that the schemes launched by the government have been able to usher in an unprecedented socio-economic transformation in the state.


Speaking about various welfare initiatives implemented in the Goreswar constituency, the Chief Minister said that 31,756 beneficiaries have been covered under the Orunodoi scheme, 2,147 girl students have received benefits under the Nijut Moina scheme, and 1,95,175 people have been covered through 64,342 ration cards.

He also mentioned the ongoing and proposed development works in the constituency, including road improvement from Mahoripara to Bogamati and the construction of a railway over-bridge at Goreswar.


Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary, Minister for Public Health Engineering Jayanta Mallabaruah, Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council Hagrama Mohilary, several Executive Members, Mission Director Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission Kuntal Moni Sarma Bordoloi, and host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
