DD TIMES GUWAHATI, October 30, 2025: The city witnessed an exceptional display of young badminton talent today as the 1st Nilav Goswami Memorial Junior Inter School Badminton Competition successfully concluded at Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti, Guwahati.
The tournament was a heartfelt tribute to the late Nilav Goswami and saw enthusiastic participation from 14 different schools, including numerous state-level and national-level players, promising a high standard of competitive badminton.
The competition was formally inaugurated by Dr. Diganta Halder, along with the parents of the late Nilav Goswami, marking an emotional and significant moment for the community and the participating students. Their presence underscored the event’s dual purpose: promoting junior sports and honoring a beloved memory.
The entire tournament was efficiently managed and adjudicated under the experienced eye of Chief Referee Mr. Rup Kumar Buragohain. The presence of such a highly qualified official ensured the games adhered to the highest standards of fair play and professionalism.
The high level of participation, especially from players with state and national tournament experience, establishes this competition as a premier platform for junior badminton talent (Under 19 Boys and Under 19 girls) in the region. The closely contested matches throughout the day provided invaluable exposure and experience to the budding athletes.
DPS KHANAPARA was the winner in the Boys match, followed by South Point the 1st runner up and Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti the 2nd runner up.
In the girls match, DPS GUWAHATI became the winner, followed by Srimanta Sankar Academy as the 1st Runner up, and Green School International as the 2nd Runner up.
The organizing committee extended its gratitude to all the participating schools, referees, and the management of Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti for making the inaugural event a grand success.
