Lakhimpur crowned champions of U-19 Girls’ Inter District Cricket Tournament 2025

Guwahati, 8 September: Lakhimpur clinched the title of the inaugural U-19 Girls’ T20 Inter District Cricket Tournament 2025 with a commanding 77-run victory over Dibrugarh in the final played at the Khirod Baruah Stadium, Morigaon, on Sunday (September 7).

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Lakhimpur posted 131 for 8 in their 20 overs. Kaku Barman top-scored with 28 off 29 balls, while Parulmoni Kaman (26 off 34), Hirusima Dihingia (14 off 17), and Priyanka Kalita (12 off 11) made useful contributions. Dibrugarh’s attack was led by Tashvi Palagiri (2/17) and Bijoya Borah (2/20), who bowled with good discipline.

In reply, Dibrugarh faltered against some fiery bowling and were bundled out for just 54 in 16.2 overs. Only Gritichika Saikia (14 off 27) and Swasti Biswakarma (14 off 25) managed to reach double figures.

The star of the day was undoubtedly Lakhimpur’s Kaku Barman, who produced a stunning spell of 6 wickets for just 4 runs. She was ably supported by Priyanka Kalita, who returned figures of 2 for 6.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Assam Cricket Association Vice President Rajdeep Oja, Treasurer Chiranjit Langthasa, Apex Council Member Minu Begum, and officials from the Morigaon District Sports Association, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, ACA Vice President Rajdeep Oja said, “This inaugural edition of the U-19 Girls’ Inter District Tournament marks a significant step towards promoting women’s cricket in Assam.

The enthusiasm and talent displayed by these young cricketers is truly inspiring and bodes well for the future of the sport in the state.
