Extensive preparations by the Assam Pradesh Congress for the 2026 elections


Tribute paid to those killed in the Delhi blast at Rajiv Bhavan

DD TIMES Guwahati, November 11: With an eye on the 2026 elections, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has intensified its preparations. From 10:30 a.m. until late at night today, senior Congress leaders held a series of discussions at Rajiv Bhavan.

Under the coordination of AICC General Secretary in charge of Assam, Jitendra Singh, three important meetings were held today. The day began with a prayer meeting to pay homage to those who lost their lives in the Delhi blast and to pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. Along with that, the country’s first Education Minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, was also fondly remembered on his 137th birth anniversary.

Immediately after that, the Manifesto Committee of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee held a crucial meeting in preparation for the 2026 elections. The meeting was conducted by AICC General Secretary Jitendra Singh, who oversees party affairs in Assam.

In the presence of T.S. Singh Deo, former Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, the committee reviewed the draft manifesto prepared by the Manifesto Committee. Committee Chairperson Pradyut Bordoloi presented the detailed draft before the members.

Those present at the meeting included Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia, former MP Balin Kuli, Ripun Bora, Abdul Khaleque, former Minister Prithvi Majhi, along with AICC Secretaries Prithviraj Sathe, Vikas Upadhyay, and Manoj Chauhan.

The next meeting was held to review the position of Congress candidates contesting the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, chaired by APCC President Gaurav Gogoi. A detailed discussion was held regarding the situation and progress of party candidates in the BTC polls.

Later in the evening, an important meeting of the Election Preparation Committee took place. Among those present were Debabrata Saikia (Chairperson, Coordination Committee), Ripun Bora (Chairperson, Election Management Committee), Bhupen Bora (Chairperson, Campaign Committee), Pradyut Bordoloi (Chairperson, Manifesto Committee), and Rakibul Hussain (Chairperson, Publicity Committee).

Also attending were the three Working Presidents of the APCC — Zakir Hussain Sikdar, Rozelina Tirkey, and Pradip Sarkar.

During the session, AICC General Secretary Jitendra Singh and APCC President Gaurav Gogoi reviewed the work progress of the committee chairpersons and discussed key recommendations for election preparedness.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, November 12, a meeting of the Political Affairs Committee, one of the top policy-making bodies of the Assam Pradesh Congress, will be held from 10:30 a.m.

Later in the day, around 4:00 p.m., APCC President Gaurav Gogoi will hold a tea meeting and interaction with leaders and presidents of various opposition political parties.
