Project to play a pioneering role in boosting tea tourism in Assam: CM
Dispur, September 4: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today launched a new project to promote and develop tea tourism at Durrung Tea Estate in Sonitpur district. The initiative implemented by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation aims to turn Assam’s tea gardens into attractive tourist destinations.

As part of the project, the heritage bungalow of Durrung Tea Estate has been transformed into the luxury hotel ‘The Postcard’, developed by the renowned Postcard Hotel Group. The Chief Minister visited the hotel and its surroundings and said that such projects will play a pioneering role in boosting tea tourism in Assam.
He said that many well-known people have already visited the hotel to enjoy the beauty of Assam’s tea gardens and several visitors from outside the state have booked rooms in advance. This has created a new stream of economic activity, he mentioned.
The Chief Minister added that tea tourism will not only showcase Assam’s tea heritage, greenery and unique lifestyle of tea garden workers to the world, but will also generate jobs for local youth, encourage cottage industries and promote local culture.
The event was also attended by MP Ranjit Dutta, MLAs Krishna Kamal Tanti and Padma Hazarika, Durrung Tea Estate owner Mrigen Jalan and several other dignitaries.
